The first time we visited Brendan Ravenhill at his workshop in Echo Park he showed us a cardboard prototype for a trash bin he was working on that had a dust pan as its lid. Genius we thought. No more searching for the dust pan in whatever closet or cabinet we put it in the last time we used it. Plus why not make the thing you use to sweep up dirt one in the same with where you end up putting the dirt.
Well Brendan’s trash bin/dust pan “love child,” as he refers to it, is now a reality. Manufactured locally here in Los Angeles, the Dustbin features a durable powder coated steel bin and lid that is fabricated by Angell & Giroux, a 65-year-old LA-based custom medal fabricator. A beech wood brush, which is made in Commerce, CA by Gordon Brush, attaches to the side via rare earth magnets and does the sweeping with natural bristles.
Priced for a limited time at a wholesale rate of $160, the Dustbin is available in 4 different looks: all white, white bin/blue pan, blue bin/white pan and all blue.
